Welcome!

POW! Did you want to read another dusty, lackluster blog? We didn’t think so. We’re a group of college students at UNC, and we're here to make your reading a little more fun.  We're all serious about our studies, but when the books close, the seriousness ceases. After discussing the subject of our blog, we discovered something that we all have in common. Each of us likes to laugh, have fun and crack jokes.

We know that every day, college students are bombarded with serious stories about boring events, scientific developments or what-have-you. Our idea was to convey essential facts about important stories with a twist. Our information will still be factual, but wacky, intriguing, slightly ironic, stimulating,  and hopefully clever. As far as our credibility goes, well, we’re UNC students and we have a reputation to uphold. If we wanted to write something boring, we would have gone to Duke.  

In our posts, we will be exploring the Humanities, Social Studies, and Sciences. We will take an academic article from these disciplines and making it our own. As college students, we know how boring it can be to sift through tedious academic papers. This won’t be another one.

Frankie Stiles

Hey y'all. My name is Frankie Stiles. I go by Frankie, it's not short for Francesca, Frances or Felicia, it's just Frankie. I was born and raised in Charlotte, North Carolina and I live in a log cabin that is, as we call it in my family, "across the pond," from my grandma's house. She is my role model and my namesake. I aspire for my personality to be as sweet as the tea I drink. I love life and I love Jesus. When I'm not at school, I like spending time with my friends, working with my horses, and going to the lake. I consider myself a bit of a thrill seeker. For my eighteenth birthday, I went skydiving- it was a blast. I want my life to be one that makes people smile, think, and be inspired. I love doing community work with my local church and I have a heart for international missions as well. I am a freshman at UNC majoring in Journalism. I am just beginning to explore the field, but someday I hope to have my own radio show or become a recognizable face on every one's television screen.

Sarah Miller

Hola! My name is Sarah Miller. I am a freshman at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. I was born a Tarheel. My parents went to UNC and my only sibling is currently at UNC. I come from a town in North Carolina that is way too small to have such a long name, Rutherfordton. I plan on majoring in Journalism and Mass Communication. I'm also considering going to law school after I graduate. My interests include sports, politics, movies, TV shows, and anything with some humor. Laughter is the best medication. With so much technology, it is easy to lose the attention of readers. I plan to write things that catch your eye and keep you interested. 


Katie McCabe
Hello, my name is Katie McCabe and I am currently a freshman at the University of North Carolina. As a child I never dreamed of a world beyond my backyard and my swing set. I consider myself to be intrapersonal, but only to a degree. My theory in life is that the only way to help someone else is by loving yourself first. I’ve discovered why I was put where I am today. My purpose in life is not to reach Mars or to win a national championship, but to help people find the good in themselves. I hope my passion and interests are expressed through my writing to inspire others.

Zach Freshwater

Hey! My name is Zach Freshwater and I'm from Mooresville, North Carolina. I'm a sophomore at UNC and I'm studying Journalism and Political Science. When I'm not in class I love to read, write, run, and watch TV (The Office, 30 Rock, Parks and Rec, and more!). I've learned that my only constant in life is change, and I try to welcome it into everything I do. I'm always looking for a new book to read and a new area in Chapel Hill to explore. I have no idea what I want to do after college, so if you have any suggestions, feel free to send them my way!
