Our plan is to use MLA style citation at the end of each blog post. The blog caters to college students who recognize and commonly use MLA. The fluidity and presentation of an MLA format will allow our audience to easily trace our sources and progress of thought. The format will allow us, as bloggers, to present sources in an organized manner.
The references most commonly used on the blog will include a variety of articles and journals that range in topic and formality. Therefore, the basic MLA format will most easily cite all academic or inconvenient sources. When referencing an informal online article or video, we will simply add the link at the bottom of the post. We want to maintain credibility and to do so, we must attribute the sources of our information. Depending on the content and style of a source, we will cite it appropriately.
We want to give credit where credit is due, but those annoying little parenthetical citations between the sentences can cause the writing to lose its flow. So, unless a quote or idea is unclear from the context, you won’t find those distractions like you would find in more formal writing. For example, we would strive to avoid using formats such as: Sarah said, “This is great fun” (Sarah 72).
